Description
Emerald Gates is a distinguished designer variety developed by James Cruz of Shroomology Genetics as part of the acclaimed Gates Project. Created by back-crossing Pearly Gates with a carefully selected green-cap Melmak OG isolate, Emerald Gates was bred to combine the refined albino heritage of Pearly Gates with the bold structure and exceptional morphology of Melmak OG. The result is a highly stabilized cultivar that has become one of the defining genetics within the Gates family.
The inspiration for the name Emerald Gates comes from one of the variety’s most recognizable features. Many mature specimens develop subtle emerald-green coloration across the center of the cap, particularly as the mushrooms mature or naturally bruise. Combined with vivid cobalt-blue bruising, dense tissue, and broad, elegantly shaped caps, this unique coloration gives Emerald Gates an appearance unlike almost any other modern variety.
Emerald Gates carries an exceptional genetic pedigree. One of its parent varieties, Pearly Gates, was developed from the celebrated True Albino Teacher (TAT) and Melmak lineages, bringing together two of the most influential modern genetic families. By introducing a specially selected Melmak OG isolate displaying green-cap characteristics, James Cruz further refined the lineage into a stable cultivar that consistently expresses its signature morphology while preserving the strength of its ancestral genetics.
Beyond its own remarkable characteristics, Emerald Gates has become one of the cornerstone breeding lines within the Gates Project. Its genetics have contributed to the development of several respected modern cultivars, including Lucid Gates, Albino Emerald Gates (AEG), Halo Gates, Mutant Gates, and Ghostly Gates. This expanding family of varieties reflects the continued success of James Cruz’s breeding program and highlights Emerald Gates’ importance in the evolution of contemporary designer genetics.
