Description
Icey Gates is a striking modern variety admired for its frosted appearance, dense morphology, and refined modern genetics. The variety is widely believed within the mycology community to be a cross between Iceberg and Halo Gates, bringing together the elegant albino characteristics of the historic Iceberg lineage with the carefully developed Gates family of genetics.
The genetic background of Icey Gates combines two exceptional modern lineages. Iceberg originated as a stabilized albino isolation of the historic Thai Lipa Yai lineage originally collected by John “Mushroom John” Allen, while Halo Gates descends from the celebrated Gates family of genetics, which traces back to influential cultivars including True Albino Teacher (TAT), TAT Black Cap (TBC), Pearly Gates, Emerald Gates, and Melmak OG. Together, these lineages unite classic landrace heritage with refined contemporary breeding.
Icey Gates is celebrated for its elegant appearance. Mature specimens commonly produce thick, snow-white stems supporting broad ivory-colored caps that often develop subtle blue-gray or frosted highlights as they mature. Intense cobalt-blue bruising contrasts beautifully against the bright white tissue, creating the icy, crystalline appearance that inspired the variety’s name.
Beyond its remarkable coloration, Icey Gates is known for producing dense, well-balanced fruiting bodies with substantial stems, broad caps, and refined overall proportions. Individual isolates may display slight variations in cap shape and coloration, but the variety is consistently appreciated for its bold structure and premium morphology.
