Iceberg is a remarkable albino variety developed from the historic Thai Lipa Yai lineage. The variety originated as a naturally occurring albino isolation that was later selected and stabilized by Miss Mush SoCal around 2019. Since its introduction, Iceberg has become one of the most recognizable modern albino cultivars, admired for its striking appearance and strong connection to one of Thailand’s best-known landrace genetics.

The roots of Iceberg trace back to Thai Lipa Yai, a wild collection originally documented by renowned mycologist John Allen, widely known as “Mushroom John.” The original genetics were collected in Lipa Yai, located on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand, a region recognized for its naturally occurring populations of P.c. By stabilizing an albino expression from this historic lineage, Miss Mush SoCal preserved the tropical heritage of the original collection while introducing an entirely new visual identity.

Iceberg is celebrated for its unmistakable appearance. Mature specimens commonly develop thick snow-white stems supporting broad ivory-colored caps that often display subtle gray, blue-gray, or slate-colored centers fading into brilliant white edges. Combined with intense cobalt-blue bruising, these characteristics create the frosted appearance that inspired the variety’s name and have made Iceberg one of the most visually distinctive Thai-derived cultivars available.

Although Iceberg expresses a true albino phenotype, it remains genetically connected to the historic Thai Lipa Yai landrace. It preserves many of the structural characteristics of its tropical ancestor while showcasing the dramatic pigmentation changes associated with true albino genetics. This combination of historic lineage and modern selection has made Iceberg especially appealing to collectors who appreciate both classic geographic isolates and contemporary designer cultivars.

Since its release, Iceberg has continued to influence modern mushroom breeding. The variety has served as breeding stock for additional selections, with community discussions identifying cultivars such as Shipwreck as descendants of the Iceberg lineage. Its continued use in breeding projects highlights the lasting value of this carefully stabilized genetic.
