Description
Chodewave is a modern designer variety created by crossing the celebrated Tidal Wave lineage with Albino Penis Envy (APE). The original cross is widely credited to Uncle J (Raymond Midichee), whose breeding work produced one of the most recognizable modern cultivars in the mycology community. Since its release, Chodewave has become an important foundation for several respected descendants, including Albino Chodewave (ACW)
The name Chodewave comes from the variety’s unmistakable growth habit. Unlike traditional varieties that typically develop taller stems and more proportionate caps, Chodewave consistently produces thick, and heavily built fruiting bodies. Its oversized stems and relatively compact caps create a dense appearance that immediately sets it apart from most other modern genetics and inspired its memorable name.
The lineage behind Chodewave combines two of the most influential families in contemporary mushroom breeding. Tidal Wave, itself a cross between Penis Envy and B+, contributes its distinctive morphology and celebrated genetic background, while Albino Penis Envy (APE) adds the dense tissue, bold structure, and recognizable characteristics that have made the APE lineage one of the most respected in modern mycology. Together, these parent genetics produce a cultivar with exceptional physical presence and a unique, easily identifiable profile.
One of Chodewave’s greatest strengths is the consistency achieved through careful selective breeding. Over successive generations, the variety has been refined to reliably express its signature stocky morphology, thick stems, and broad caps. This dependable expression has also made Chodewave an outstanding breeding parent, contributing its distinctive traits to several well-known modern cultivars. Among its most recognized descendants are Albino Chodewave, a stabilized albino isolation, and Scylla, another carefully selected phenotype that has developed a strong following of its own.
